A Pigeon Watching Guide!

I just finished reading a new bird guide, one devoted to pigeon watching. It’s about time! It’s called PIGEON WATCHING, (Workman Publishing, 2021) by Rosemary Mosco, who also illustrates it with bright images, charts and sidebars. PIGEON WATCHING does exactly what the subtitle says, it offers a fun way to get to know the world’s most misunderstood bird. You’ll conclude that pigeons are the world’s most extraordinary bird. If you want to introduce children to birds that live around them, start with this book.

Speaking of books, another one I’d recommend is a YA novel, THE FEATHERHOOD, by Jim Jenner, the globally-recognized documentary filmmaker, former pigeon racer and aficionado, and producer of a series of films on pigeons. It’s a mystery that involves two young boys who find a lost pigeon–which turns out to be not just any pigeon. I was captivated by Jenner’s knowledge and ability to include in his story a pigeon’s point of view.
